Monsoon

Monsoon along the Arizona divide:
The Mogollon Rim* is the edge of the Colorado Plateau and Flagstaff sits at the base of the San Francisco peaks, the highest points in Arizona. During monsoon season the moisture flows up from the south, hits the rim and is forced up into the cooler mountain air. Thunderstorms result; dry desert soil turns into mud or raging flows of mud, rocks and other desert detritus. Everything turns green and smells wonderful.
* pronounced “moe gee yon” (don’t ask, I don’t know!)
